Every route you'll find here was personally walked, driven, or cycled by Jennifer Young — no aggregated databases, no sponsored itineraries, no guesswork. These are real roads, real trails, and real ferry crossings, mapped and written up after the journey itself, and shared freely so that fellow independent travellers can explore Turkey's lesser-known corners with honest, first-hand guidance at their side.
Trek through abandoned Greek Orthodox villages and terraced olive groves between Bergama and Foça, where almost no other travellers venture.
Pedal the dramatic Lycian coastline past rock-cut tombs, turquoise coves, and cedar forests on one of Turkey's most rewarding long-distance cycling routes.
Two days of walking through the fairy chimneys, carved churches, and apricot orchards of Göreme and the Rose Valley — a weekend that earns its reputation.
Drive the lush, mist-shrouded highlands behind Rize through a landscape of tea gardens, alpine meadows, and medieval Georgian churches hidden in deep forest.
Chase the colossal stone heads of Antiochus I at dawn, then follow the upper Euphrates through basalt canyons on an Eastern Anatolia circuit unlike anything else in Turkey.
Take local buses and dolmuş minibuses from İzmir through Selçuk, Şirince, and Tire to discover the Aegean interior that most visitors see only from a tour bus window.
Board a traditional wooden gulet for a day circuit of hidden coves, submerged ruins, and pine-scented bays that can only be reached by water.
Pedal across the windswept Anatolian plateau past Hittite capitals, Bronze Age mounds, and villages where the 21st century arrives gently and selectively.
Drive the wild cliff-edged coast of the western Black Sea to the Ottoman caravanserai town of Safranbolu, a UNESCO World Heritage city that still feels genuinely lived in.
Take a local boat across Turkey's largest lake to the Armenian Church of the Holy Cross on Akdamar Island — a journey of profound beauty and historical depth.
Take the long way south on back roads through ancient Ionian cities, olive groves, and near-empty beaches that package tourism somehow still hasn't found.
Drive to Turkey's southernmost province to eat your way through a cuisine shaped by Arab, Armenian, Syriac, and Alevi traditions — and explore one of antiquity's great cities.

A Note from the Author
Every route, guide, and itinerary on this site is written by me — Jennifer Young — based on trips I've personally made across Turkey, often returning to the same regions to verify what has changed, what holds up, and what deserves a second mention. I'm not a travel agency, not a brand partner, and not affiliated with any tourism board.
This is a free public resource, kept up to date through regular revisits and reader correspondence. If a guesthouse has closed, a road has improved, or a hidden viewpoint has been "discovered" — I want to know. The goal is always accuracy, not pageviews.
Have a question about a specific route, want to share something you found off the map, or simply noticed something that needs correcting? I read every message personally and respond when I can.
